Barberyn Beach, which opened in February 2003, is set on the southern tip of Sri Lanka near the coastal town of Weliama, 140km south of Colombo. Set on a high knoll overlooking acres of coconut groves which gently slope down to two beautiful beaches, the 15 acre resort is carefully landscaped to preserve the natural environment.
The Ayurveda centre has the benefit of the twenty years experience of its sister resort (Barberyn Reed) in providing effective and caring Ayurveda therapies to improve the health and well-being of the guests who visit the resort not only to improve their health but also to enjoy a tropical beach holiday. All the guests quickly learn to listen to their bodies - and they feel the tension and stress dissolve with the warm oil and the rhythmic strokes of the therapists. As well as for general well-bing Ayurveda has effective remedies for medical problems such as shoulder pain, back ache - sciatica, insomnia, Gastritis ulcers, skin disorders, psoriasis, allergies, and arthritis.
The Barberyn Reef Ayurveda Health Centre has a team of specially trained staff members, including resident Ayurveda doctors, therapists, medicine makers and acupuncture specialists. All treatment programmes begin with a consultation with the Ayurvedic doctor who records not only the obvious symptoms, but will also take all aspects of a persons' life into consideration, such as their personality, their lifestyle, personal circumstances and state of health.
Accommodation and Other Facilities
Contemporary architecture blends beautifully with indigenous design to create feeling of space and light - which brings nature in - for guests to enjoy the healing that comes from within.
At the highest point on the land is an open entrance pavilion looking over the grounds towards the sea. The pavilion is a place for guests to gather and listen to music, particularly as evening gives way to the night, and stars light the huge skies.
All resort buildings, resturants and guest rooms are built against the hillside facing the Indian Ocean with panoramic views of the garden and the sea.
Food is an integral part of Ayurveda and guests use their time at Barberyn to get to know the links between food and health. The doctors are on hand to explain what type of vegetables and fruits each guest should have or avoid.
